Riverside High School:
This school is part of The Green Initiative – an innovative green design guide for the $700 million, district-wide school construction program. Green building encompasses the idea of buildings as teaching tools. Day-lit commons, extensive connectivity to the outdoors, and environmental stewardship learning opportunities throughout offer students the opportunity to see how buildings and occupant behavior affect the environment.
Project highlights include: Roof top outdoor science lab including green roof landscaped with native plant communities, rain water harvesting, and weather station; Use of local materials and resources and complete reduction of roof top urban heat island effect; Solar thermal assisted potable water heating.
